Heavy Rain

Heavy Indeed.
Review By Ken Inferno

Heavy Rain is an amazing game, completely different from every other game you have ever played. The only game it shares anything with is its much inferior spiritual predecessor, Indigo Prophecy (also known as Fahrenheit). Video games are not known for their stories. Even games that do have nice stories focus on gameplay first. That is not the case here. This main focus of this game is story. So if your the type of gamer who wants to skip the story and just shoot things, this game is not for you.

GRAPHICS: The graphics in this game are simply amazing, as you are probably aware. No game on any other video game console has graphics which can compare to this.

CONTROLS: Will probably seem strange at first, but once you play the game you will understand why it works. I wouldn't want the controls to be any other way.

SOUND: The soundtrack is amazing and very gripping. The voice acting is great as well. The only voice actors that bothered me was the child actors. I have yet to play a game or even see a movie where a child's acting had me convinced. There are moments where certain characters are in a great deal of pain. And unlike pretty much every other game I've ever played, their pain was completely believable.

GAMEPLAY: Despite the fact that its often described as an "interactive movie," their are a lot of puzzles in the game that make it more than that. So many games in the past have advertised "every decision you make matters," when in reality all they had was some crappy karma system (Yes; I'm talking about Fable and Fallout). In Heavy Rain, they actually deliver on this. Every character in the game can live or die depending on your actions.

People can get arrested or screwed over in other ways. None of these things result in a "game over," the story just keeps on rolling. Every second of the game is different each play-through, and every scene can unfold in a multitude of ways. This is the first game to ever deliver on their promises of having every little action matter.

STORY: The story is amazing. Do not let anybody spoil it for you! Its much like a "choose your own adventure" novel, as I described in the gameplay section; the story can unfold in a massive amount of ways. The very beginning of the game is a little slow, but it is necessary. Once you play past it you will understand why.

OVERALL: Unless you don't care for intricate stories in your games, this is a must play.
