Ogre Battle 64 - Person of Lordly Caliber

This game is absouletly awesome. Very deep and engrossing
Review By Viper_X

I love this game to death. There are so many things good about it, and being a fan of the original (I still haven't beat it) I know my Ogre Battle.

GRAPHICS: Wonderfully made. 2-D sprites make up all the characters, and they work very well. The maps also look very nice, at all 3 different perspectives. This game also incorporates what Final Fantasy has yet to: Include anime-like faces in the message box. The only reason this game gets an 8 is because the sprites don't animate well. For instance, they can only turn four ways, and sometime this makes it look really bad.

SOUND: The game REALLY shines here. The battle music kicks ass! The first song is played for the most of the most of the beginning which kinda sucks, but it is a remix of the original Ogre Battle theme. In Chapter 2, you get quite a bit of variety. Same stuff in chapter 3. Finally, in Chapter 4, fans of the original Ogre Battle are in for a treat! Sound effects are THAT bad, but there pretty limited...

GAMEPLAY: Feel the polish, I say. Micro managers rejoice, because you can change your army QUITE a bit. Which is really the only way you can beat the game. It's really fun, and character development is awesome. Being able to change a character's class according to their alignment, kicks ass. The battle system may seem really limited at first, but at least it goes much faster than the original! And the translation also is really great. The game loses a point because you can lose a well developed character to an undead character just by beating the level while he's dead. And you can't bring him back! Legions, unfortunately, are useless.

CHALLENGE: It is really hard the first time through, but once you figure out the secret to the game (which I won't ruin) it becomes very easy. Except for the final boss. Which is REALLY hard. But there is a tutorial if you don't know what you're doing, which is really helpful I guess. I've never needed to use it.

REPLAYABLE: Different endings, different characters at the start, different paths, and different events all lead up to great replay value.

OVERALL: I love this game to death. There are so many things good about it, and being a fan of the original (I still haven't beat it) I know my Ogre Battle.
